MICROBLADING & PMU FAQ

Deciding whether Microblading or PMU (Permanent Makeup) is right for you can be a tricky decision, and during our consultations, we often get asked the same sort of questions by our clients. We've answered some of the most common questions below to make the process a little bit easier. If you need any more assistance before booking your appointment please contact us.

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent Makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing, Micropigmentation and Microblading, is a form a tattoo implanting pigment into the epidermis layer of the skin to mimic the look of conventional makeup. Although its called Permanent Makeup, it does actually fade and top ups are required to maintain your results.

How long does pmu/microblading last?

This varies from person to person because skin type, diet, genetics and environmental factors can all contribute to how long the pigments will be retained. For instance, sun bed use and sun exposure have a bearing on the pigment retention, but this can be prevented with proper protection. Maisie will advise you on the best ways to care for your Permanent Makeup. We typically advise clients to return for a colour boost after 12-18 months to keep your Permanent Makeup fresh.

Will you top up other peoples pmu work?

No. Our touch up service is only for our existing clients. If you have had your brows done elsewhere, we do not go over them until they have completely faded. Once your brows are ready to be re-done, full prices apply. We are able to offer a removal service where old work is unwanted, but not everyone is suitable candidate for this and in some cases laser may be a better option. Please contact us for more information regarding this.

What will happen at my pmu/microblading appointment?

First Maisie will discuss your desired result, we will talk about shape and style, and together we will choose a colour that will complement your skin tone. Maisie will draw in your eyeliner, eyebrows or lip blush with pencil to make sure you are happy with the shape before the treatment begins. Treatments usually take between 2 to 3 hours in total. After 4-8 weeks once the area has heeled you will return for a touch up session to perfect the Permanent Makeup.

Will you tattoo my brows exactly as I draw them?

If you arrive with perfect eyebrows then of course Maisie will be happy to follow your own shape, but the likelihood of this happening is slim.

Maisie will measure and design your brows carefully to suit your face. You have chosen to come to a professional who is experienced in their field, so please follow her advice if she thinks the shape needs to be changed.

Is pmu/microblading safe?

We adhere to the highest standards of health and safety. You can be assured that all risks are minimised and that you are in safe hands. However, because the treatment involves implanting pigment into the skin, that means it is invasive. While this is what provides permanent cosmetics with its long-lasting benefits, there are also some risks. As with any form of tattooing, these can include allergic reaction, infection or scarring.

You will be given the best aftercare advice to follow after your treatment and it is your responsibility as the client to follow this advise once you leave the clinic.

Who is not suitable for pmu/microblading?

  • Women who are pregnant or breast feeding

  • Under the age of 18

  • Undergoing or have undergone chemotherapy recently

  • Using prescription acne medication

  • Those with epilepsy

  • Have a heart condition or using heart medications

Do I need a consultation?

Consultations are recommended so that we can discuss your different options and go through any questions or concerns you may have. They are mandatory if you have had previous work done elsewhere as we may not be able to go over them (PLEASE NOTE: If you have existing Permanent Makeup from another artist and you book an appointment without booking a consultation first and Maisie is unable to go ahead with your treatment, your deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE). We also offer you a patch test at your consultation, however, should you wish to forgo the consultation a patch test kit will be posted to you to carry out at home prior to your appointment.

Can I have this pmu treatment done whilst I’m pregnant?

Unfortunately not, sorry! Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding cannot have their brows done, you are advised to wait until a few months after you have given birth / finished breastfeeding to book your appointment.

What is microblading?

Microblading involves creating tiny hair likes strokes in the skin, a fine micrblade is used to gently implant pigment into the skin to mimic the look of your natural brow hairs. Microblading is great for anyone wanting to improve and enhance their brows.

What are the benefits of microblading?

Benefits of microblading include;

  • Fuller, better shaped brows

  • Natural looking results

  • Low maintenance

  • Waterproof, smudge-proof brows that won't wash off

  • Can correct asymetry and fill in gaps

  • Great option for those who struggle to apply makeup or who simply don't have the time

What is lip blush?

Lip blush is a cosmetic tattoo that involves gently implanting pigment into the lips to add a flush of colour and achieve a more defined lip shape. The treatment is a great option to rejuvenate lips that have lost their natural pigment at the border, and by replacing this lost pigment we can also help the lips to appear fuller.

What should I do before my lip blush treatment?

If you have ever had a coldsore its important that you prepare for your lip tattoo treatment by taking a course of anti-viral tablets such as Aciclovir or Zovirax. This is critical to the success of your treatment as the lip blush process can trigger an outbreak where the coldsore virus lays dormant. This can be painful and can cause a poor healed result due to bad pigment retention. It's also important to keep your lops hydrated in the run up to your treatment, dry lips are more difficult to work with and again this could negatively effect your healed result.

What are the benefits of lip blush?

Benefits of lip blush include:

  • Fuller looking, better shaped lips

  • More defined lip border

  • Long lasting results

  • Waterproof, smudge-free lip colour with less need to apply conventional makeup

  • Great option for those who don't like to wear makeup, or simple don't have the time

If I've had lip filler am I able to also have lip blush?

Yes, the two treatments work really well together, you just need to plan your appointments carefully so that the lips have enough time to heal in between treatments. We recommend waiting at least 6-8 weeks between treatments.

What are the benefits of an eyeliner tattoo?

Benefits of an eyeliner tattoo include:

  • Enhance and define your eyes

  • Waterproof, smudge-proof results so no need to apply conventional makeup every day

  • Perfect for those who are sensitive to cosmetics or who struggle to apply eyeliner

  • Fills in the lash line for those with light/fair eyelashes

  • Can help those with alopecia/trichotillomania who have lost their eyelashes

What should I do before my eyeliner tattoo treatment?

Before your permanent eyeliner treatment you should stop the use of any lash growth serums such as Lash Boost or Latisse for at least 4-6 weeks before your eyeliner tattoo. These serums can thin the skin and cause excess bleeding and/or bruising which would negatively impact your results. You should also avoid wearing contact lenses to your appointment, and remove any lash extensions before your treatment.
