AESTHETICS FAQ

Aesthetic treatments are non-surgical procedures that are designed to fight signs of aging and improve overall appearance for a rejuvenated, more youthful look. If you’re new to the world of aesthetic treatments it can be overwhelming deciphering all the information that's out there, so we’ve broken down our most asked questions to make things a little more clear.

LIP FILLER FAQs

What is lip filler made of?

Lip fillers are most commonly made from hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a substance that our bodies naturally produce, which means that the risk of allergic reactions is very low. Most lip fillers also contain lidocaine, which is a numbing agent that helps to make your procedure more comfortable. As we age the HA we naturally find in our body & skin decreases, and this results in reduced hydration levels in our skin and an increase in wrinkles. The HA in the filler attracts water which helps to plump the skin, add hydration and minimise the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

How long after the lip fillers can I smoke/wear makeup?

We advise you to avoid smoking for as long as possible after your treatment, the main reason being that your lips will likely be swollen and tender so smoking will probably feel uncomfortable for a day or two. We also advise against wearing makeup on the lips for at least 24 hours as any unclean makeup in the injection sites could lead to infection.

How can I reduce swelling after having lip fillers?

Swelling is a normal side effect, but the amount of swelling you experience varies from person to person. First of all make sure you follow the pre care advice to minimise any excessive swelling. After your treatment you can apply a gel ice pack to the area to help soothe the lips and bring down the swelling. Also we advise avoiding alcohol, caffeine, heat (saunas/steam rooms), and heavy exercise as these exacerbate and swelling you experience.

Are lip fillers permanent?

Lip fillers are not permanent, they are a low maintenance treatment with appointments being needed roughly every 6-9 months, however this does vary from person to person. There is also the option to dissolve your filler. If for example you experience migration or have overfilled lips, a product called hyaluronidase can be used to dissolve the filler.

Will lip fillers help with smokers lines?

Yes, by adding a small amount of filler along the vermillion border this can help to improve the appearance of smokers lines that sit above the top lip.

Will lip fillers hide a gummy smile?

The best course of action for a gummy smile is anti-wrinkle injections to relax the overactive muscle which causes the top lip to lift or curl under. You can then also filler to increase the size of the top lip which will further conceal the gummy smile.

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTION FAQs

What is the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and fillers?

Anti-wrinkle injections work by paralysing the muscles which in turn stops the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers work by adding volume to areas that need it, from plumping out the lips to filling in smokers lines or even helping to contour the nose, cheeks and chin.

What type of anti-wrinkle do you use?

I use only safe, licensed products in my treatments. These products come with a price tag, and unfortunately there are some practitioners who are using unlicensed products on their clients in order to save a few pounds. Be wary of practitioners who are charging well below the average… there's a reason why! And never be afraid to ask your practitioner what they are using.

How often should you have anti-wrinkle injections?

We advise getting your anti-wrinkle injections done roughly every 4 months to maintain your results and to prevent the formation of any static wrinkles (wrinkle that are still visible even when your face is not moving).

Can I have my anti-wrinkle and filler done at the same time?

Yes absolutely, they actually work really well together to achieve an overall refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

Can anti-wrinkle be reversed?

Unlike dermal filler there isn’t a product that will reverse the effect of your anti-wrinkle injections, however effects will wear off after 3-4 months.

Who can have anti-wrinkle injections?

Both men and women can benefit from anti-wrinkle injections, however due to men typically having strong muscles more product is often required.

Who should not have anti-wrinkle injections?

Those who:

  1. Have an active infection at the treatment site

  2. Have previously had an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin A

  3. Are pregnant or breastfeeding

  4. Have muscle conditions or chronic diseases that affect the muscles, such as Eaton Lambert syndrome

SKIN BOOSTERS FAQs

Can skin boosters be combined with other treatments?

Absolutely, skin boosters will help you achieve a natural, radiant glow however if you are looking to achieve an even more youthful complexion you can combine skin boosters with anti-wrinkle injections and/or fillers to treat the whole face for optimal results.

What areas can be treated with skin boosters?

The most common treatment area for skin boosters is the face, including lips, under eyes, sleep lines etc, however we can also treat the chest and hands.

How often should I have maintenance treatments?

For your first time having skin boosters we recommend a course of 2-3 treatments taken a few weeks apart. After that you can have a maintenance treatment every 6 months to upkeep your results.

Are there any risks with skin boosters?

No, skin boosters are a very safe treatment with almost no risks provided your treatment is performed by a trained professional. The only side effect you might experience is bruising and swelling at the injection site, which is normal with any treatment of this nature. If you are concerned about this you can use arnica and avoid caffeine or alcohol pre & post procedure to minimise any bruising.

What happens during the treatment?

First your practitioner should discuss your concerns and the results you want to achieve. Next the treatment area will be cleansed and numbing cream will be applied and left for a short time to take effect. Once the numbing cream has been removed the injection process will begin -the treatment takes around 20 minutes.

What happens after the treatment?

As with any injectable treatment you may experience some minor bruising, tenderness and swelling at the injection site. It's normal for small lumps and bumps to be present where the skin booster has been administered, these usually go within a few hours but for some it can take a few days. If you do experience any bruising you can apply makeup after 24 hours.
